Long-running sci-fi series The X Files is to return for an eleventh season after it was renewed by US network FOX.
The future of the hit show, starring Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny was in doubt after last year’s series was met with mixed reviews. But now another set of ten episodes will go into production this Summer with the show airing in 2018.
“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide,” Fox Broadcasting Company President David Madden said in a press release. “Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”
Channel 5 own the UK rights to the show.
